They’re close enough to our Myrtle Beach hotel you won’t drive for hours to get there either.

The Franklin G. Burroughs-Simeon B. Chapin Art Museum will exhibit “From Tree to Treasure:  An International Invitational Exhibition of Turned or Sculpted Wood” through April 26, 2012. Woodturning, a craft form dating back to 13th century Egypt, has enjoyed a surge in popularity in recent years. The results are a unique range of shapes and designs, from a simple bowl to an intricately formed sculpture. Regular gallery hours are 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday, and 1:00-4:00 p.m., Sunday.

The Murrells Inlet 2020 5K Race for the Inlet will be held on Saturday, March 24, 2012 starting at 8:00 a.m. Lace up those sneakers or bring out your bicycle for some early morning exercise. The race starts and ends at Morse Park Landing on Highway 17 Business (next to the Hot Fish Club) in Murrells Inlet. Participants can run, walk or bicycle (casual bicycling only) through Murrells Inlet on the USATF certified course. Race timing provided by Race Management Systems. It is a fun event suitable for all ages and skill levels. Prizes will be awarded to top male and female chip timings in each category. Registration dates and costs will be announced. Packet pick-up will be held on Friday, March 23 at the MI2020 office between 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. So register early to get your T-shirt. Registration is open. Proceeds benefit Murrells Inlet 2020. Call 843-357-2007 for more information or if you are interested in being a race sponsor.
