There’s no better place to experience the magic and spirit of Christmas in the South than Brookgreen Gardens’ Nights of a Thousand Candles! This spectacular event is in its 18th year and is truly a holiday experience that is not to be missed.
To celebrate the season, Brookgreen Gardens, the famous property developed as a sculpture garden by the Huntington family, comes alive with the aide of 5,500 hand-lit candles. You’ll find these glistening and glowing lights floating in the fountains, reflecting pools and lighting your way through the night. Each of the distinct sculpture gardens are decorated in their own unique theme of lights, be it a frosty blue, candy cane colored stripes or a multicolor masterpiece.
As you wander through each glowing garden, sip some hot chocolate, warm cider or give your feet a rest inside the heated dinner tent with Lowcountry fare made by award-winning Inlet Affairs Catering. The menu features all of your favorite Southern fare including shrimp and grits, inlet clam chowder, snow crab, oysters on the half shell, chicken bog, BBQ and chicken breast with fire-roasted corn and peppers. There is also a wide-array of vegetarian and child-friendly food to choose from.
The lighting of the 85ft fir tree at 5:45pm each night is a sight to see! Join in on the anticipation as the crowd counts down from five as the twilight is illuminated by over 100,000 lights wrapped around the Christmas tree. Each night is also host to various live entertainment, carolers and wandering musicians to enhance the festive atmosphere.
Please do not forget to dress warmly and wear comfortable walking shoes. Guests are encouraged to arrive early (before 5:30pm) and to carpool with friends. Areas such as the zoo are not open during this event. Tickets must be purchased ahead of time! For those guests staying at Tilghman Beach and Golf Resort, discounted tickets can be purchased at our front desk that can be used any night of the event.
